Amir Khusro Dehelvi, belonging to the Chisti order of Sufis, is credited with combining the Persian and South Asian musical customs to make qawwali, as we know today. In the late thirteenth century in India, Hazarat Amir Khusro trained twelve students for performing qawwalies, these students are known as "Qawwal Bachche" and the families connected with these Qawwal Bachche are known as "Qawwal Bachchon Ka Gharana". Mian Samad Bin Ibrahim was the first student of Hazrat Ameer Khusro and the Group Leader of the group. Ustad Tan Ras Khan Sahab, organizer of Delhi Gharana, was the last educator in Mughal Emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar's court. Ustad Meraj Ahmed Nizami is the most senior amongst the descendents of Tan Ras Khan Sahib. His family has been singing qawwalis for recent hundreds of years. Khusro's convention has passed unbroken over seven centuries and thirty eras.
