Biography

Dastak is a Bollywood/fusion/Sufi LIVE band based out of the capital city of India, New Delhi. Previously known as Avikshith, the band came into existence in the year 2014. The name of the band is a Hindi term for the English word 'knock'. It is a knock to the world of music where they aim at showcasing a new genre, a new feel to the listener. Dastak has delivered great performances at various sites across Delhi, and been greatly appreciated and liked by audiences. They play soulful music as well as Bollywood's hit dance numbers. Band Members: Parag Jain – Vocals Dastak proudly possesses the semi-classical singer Parag who started his singing at the age of 10. With time, his passionate vocal skills were more polished after he pursued training in classical singing. He is one of those few vocalists who are supremely comfortable with Sufi-influenced renditions and can hold their own with Western pop/rock compositions. Parag is the spine of Dastak as he manages things and binds the whole band together. Under the guidance of Pt Sarathi Chatterjee from the famous Banaras gharana (school) of the Indian classical music, Parag has expanded his expertise in classical music in the past two years. He was also a finalist in the TV show – Colgate Maxfresh Antakshari – in 2007, and stood among the top 50 in Voice of India Junior. Parag is currently an Audio Engineer with Audio Crafts. Vishal Thapa – Lead Guitars Experimenting with music is fun to Vishal, which is why his experiments lead to progressive and psychedelic music that is Expectedly a fusion of various components of metal, jazz, folk, indie, and soft acoustic genres. He is greatly influenced by John Mayer, John Petrucci, Guthrie Govan, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, and Hendrix. Vishal usually plays death metal, progressive metal, blues, rock and technical experimental music. He is a professionally-trained Sound Engineer, too. Laksh Anand – Bass Guitar Laksh began his musical journey as a guitarist and used to play on stage in his school life, which earned him the experience of playing LIVE. As he got into college studies, he moved on to the bass guitar and has won numerous competitions ever since. Laksh has played in the famous metal band ‘High Frequency’. He is now a Grade 7 bassist from Trinity College and stood as a topper in 2007. Hanu Jeet Singh – Drums Hanu is a self-taught drummer who is not only trustworthy but kind too by nature.
