Boom Shankar Project is a LIVE band based out of the capital city of India, New Delhi.
It is an alliance of musicians from India and around the globe; hailing from diverse musical influences and backgrounds and exploring music from even the shallowest corners of the world is how Boom Shankar Project can be well-described.
An initiative of Rishabh Shankar, the band, since its inception in 2011, has been a regular performer at the Delhi music circuit and in cities like Rishikesh, Goa, and Dharamsala.
The band believes that playing set patterns and creating a set list prior to a gig is not its cup of tea.
The roots of Boom Shankar Project’s music are set on Sufi and folk – from around the world, and from different eras. Its inspiration includes Bhatiyali, Turkish, Persian, and Baul music. The primary genre of music that the band imbibed is Indian classical, which, it says, is in its blood. Besides, the band is also inclined towards rock, jazz, and blues.
Boom Shankar Project uses Hindi and Urdu in its songs, while it also makes use of Sufi poetry penned by Sufi saints like Baba Bulleh Shah, Baba Fariduddin Ganjshakar, and Hazrat Amir Khusrow. Other influences are Sanskrit verses, Rudraroopa by Lord Shiva, the poetry of Rumi, and Buddhist chants, which have given an inspiration to the band, to blend these masterpieces and bring a unique sound.
