Vasi Ahmed Khan is a professional instrumentalist based out of the finance capital of India, Mumbai. The dynamic, vibrant and experienced artist learned the art of tabla under the guidance of late Ustad Nawab Ali Khan of Farrukhabad Gharana, for more than two decades. Vasi Ahmed Khan started his training in tabla at the very early age of seven and gave his first solo performance in All India Radio Bombay, at the age of 10. Gradually, Vasi developed so much interest in tabla that he focused all his attention on this art. His guru (teacher), Late Ustad Nawab Ali Khan, gave him special training, observing his progress and proficiency in tabla. Being an experienced tabla soloist, Vasi has a unique quality as a jazz musician, which gave him an opportunity to perform with American jazz artists. He has taken a workshop with American jazz musicians at NCPA (National Centre for Performing Arts, Mumbai) and played at many music festivals around the globe. Vasi Ahmed Khan is also an experienced teacher and has a number of students who are learning under his expert guidance. Many of the students are working in the music field commercially. Over the years, Vasi has had the opportunity to perform with world-renowned and legendary artists like Grammy-award winner Toumani Diabate, Oscar-award winner AR Rehman, Ustaad Rais Khan, Late Smt Nirmala Devi, Smt Shobha Gurtu, Ustad Shahid Parvez, legendary vocalist in Carnatic music Dr BalaMurali Krishna, Dr Mustafa Raza (Vichitra Veena Vadak), Ustad Iqbal Ahmed Khan (Delhi Gharana vocalist), and Kathak dancers like Smt Sitara Devi, Pt Veeru Krishna, and Pt Santosh Maharaj. He has performed with world-renowned Ghazal singers like Peenaz Masani, Ghulam Ali, Talat Aziz, Hariharan, Chandandas, Bhupinder and Mitali Singh, etc. He is a lifetime member of Cine Musician Association, Mumbai. He had played with music directors like Khayyam, Laxmikant Pyarelal, Anu Malik, and Anand Milind. He has also had the opportunity to perform for the then-President of India, Shri Gyani Zail Singh, at Rashtrapati Bhawan (Delhi); President of Tajikistan, Mr Emomali Rehmanov; and Princess of Thailand, Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. He had his maiden foreign tour in 1982. After that, he visited many countries like UAE, USA, Europe, Canada, Africa, South Africa, Mauritius, Seychelles, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Masqat, Bahrain, Yemen, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Hong Kong, Tajikistan, Thailand, etc. Vasi Ahmed Khan is an empanelled Artist of (ICCR) Indian Council for Cultural Relations in the solo category. He has been sent through ICCR to teach tabla at Indian Embassy Cultural Centre, Dushanbe, Tajikistan from 2002 to 2005. Again, he had an opportunity to give his services to Government of India in 2012 at Indian Embassy Cultural Centre, Bangkok, Thailand. He was sent by ICCR (Indian Council for Cultural Relations) as a Cultural Ambassador to countries like Syria, Tunis, Egypt, Kuwait, Doha, Qatar, Turkey, and Armenia as a performing artist. Vasi has also performed for many charitable trusts like Cancer Aids Patients and Blind and Handicapped Children. He has performed in Kuwait in the presence of ambassador, Prabhu Dayal, for Collecting Fund for Kargil Martyrs.
