Viveick Rajagopalan is a professional singer based out of the finance capital of India, Mumbai. Trained under the Carnatic tradition on majestic percussive instruments like mridangam and kanjira, Viveick uses his classical roots to compose music that moves between many styles. Viveick is a musician and composer, straddling both worlds with equal ease. His music is stamped with this unique sound, reflecting his influences from drum-n-bass and electronic, to folk and jazz . His ability to retain the unique flavour of Indian music while seamlessly integrating it into his collaborations and performance is unmatched among many other musicians of his time. His work has won him several awards, from the Most Mind-Blowing Music Video Award at AVIMA in 2009 for ‘Snake in the City’ to Best Folk Fusion Artist Award at the Radio City – Freedom Radio Awards in 2013 for his single, Quest. Over nearly two decades as performer and composer, Viveick has toured and collaborated with musicians from all over the world. He performed at the International Jazz Festival ‘96, Thailand, at the age of 18, along with Dinshaw Sanjana and a host of talented jazz artists. He represented India at the Commonwealth Concert Tour in 2002 with Music Director, Courtney Pine, and other well-known musicians from the Commonwealth nations. At the 2003 Jazz Yatra, Viveick performed with Ragatronik, consisting of world music stalwarts like Bugge Wesseltoft, Shri (Badmarsh and Shri), Per Martinsen, and Dhruba Ghosh. Viveick is also part of the OK World Ensemble, curated by Bugge Wesseltoft, a world music project produced by Oslo World Music Festival. The ensemble featured Bugge Wesseltoft, SHRI, Amadeu Cossa, Khaled Yassine, and Josemi Carmona and has toured India, Spain, Bangladesh, Norway, Germany, Mozambique, South Africa, and Lebanon. He has two albums to his credit – Dancing with Shiva and Moving Images – released in 2007 and 2008 respectively. In the last few years, he has released five singles from his cross-cultural collaborative album called Music Prayer Rhythm People, which features artists from India, Greece, and Lebanon. Viveick continues to perform, compose, record and collaborate. His studio is located in the heart of the Mumbai suburb.
