Rashid Ali is a professional singer based out of the finance capital of India, Mumbai. Originally from Surrey in the UK, he was discovered by India’s most renowned and famous Bollywood music director and Oscar winner, AR Rahman.
Since his association with AR Rahman, Rashid has delivered huge Bollywood hits in recent times, including Nazar Laaye (Raanjhanaa) and the ever popular Kabhi Kabhi Aditi (Jaane Tu Ya Jane Na), which was his debut Bollywood song and became a massive hit in 2008.
Rashid, as a result, got several nominations for Star Screen, Filmfare, Radio Mirchi, and Stardust awards. Rashid credits Farida Ali, his mother, a once well-known Ghazal and Geet singer within the Asian community in the UK, for his exposure to Indian music.
In fact, it wasn’t until 2001 that when Rashid met AR Rahman at a Charity concert in aid of the earthquake in Gujarat; he discovered that they both shared common ground in their association with Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan.
Following that destined encounter, Rashid has regularly worked with AR Rahman, singing and playing LIVE on tour in his concerts around the world as well regularly playing the guitar on numerous film recordings.
Sooner or later, it was just a matter of time before Rashid was selected as the voice behind Imran Khan for the hit film song, Kabhi Kabhi Aditi.
The music is totally unique with a subtle eclectic mix of so many genres derived from the spectrum of influences which Rashid has absorbed over the years, and yet, he has retained the organic acoustic elements of the sheer strength of emotion conveyed by one man through his voice and guitar.
