Vishesh Kapil is a professional guitarist based out of the capital city of Tamil Nadu, Chennai. He has a diploma in music performance from Swarnabhoomi Academy of Music.
Vishesh is a guitarist, composer, arranger, and teacher. Born in 1991 in Punjab, at the age of 14, he was gifted his first guitar by his parents. This marked the beginning of a beautiful journey that has brought him across the country. Despite the dearth of good teachers and YouTube tutorials, his passion for the art and a keen ear for music drove him to teach himself to play the guitar.
Later, the snow-clad mountains of Shimla formed the perfect setting for Vishesh, a student of computer science engineering then, to be part of Elvish Mirage, a progressive metal band. Together, they played around the country throughout college.
The engineering route saw him shift to Pune, where he worked in the corporate sector for three years while doing small corporate gigs. The routine grind not only reaffirmed his passion but also aroused an unsettling fervour to hone his skill. Soon, he quit his job to get a formal education in music. In 2016, he attended a year at Swarnabhoomi Academy of Music, Chennai, where he received a Diploma in Music Performance.
At the music school, he worked closely with his mentor, one of the greatest jazz guitarist, Sid Jacobs, who had been teaching at MI, Hollywood for 30 years now and has played with legends like Frank Sinatra Jr., Buddy Montgomery, etc. During his time with Sid, Vishesh had opened up his creative space by intensively studying The Art of Two-Line Improvisation.
Vishesh is currently working on some jazz reharmonizations of popular songs, solo guitar arrangements and is looking forward to some collaborative work with other musicians.
