Biography
Viraja and Shyamjith Kiran is a professional dance duo based out of the capital city of Tamil Nadu, Chennai. They are Indian classical dancers trained in the form of Bharatanatyam at the Kalakshetra Foundation (Chennai) and are looking forward to bringing some of their best choreographic works to a larger audience. Previously a part of the Kalakshetra Repertory Company, the duo is currently exploring different paths as practitioners, performers, choreographers, and teachers. The duo has had the good fortune of training under and working with eminent gurus like Smt Leela Samson and Sadanam Balakrishnan (Kathakali) who have been an immense source of inspiration in their respective art forms. Involvement with these eminent gurus, Kalakshetra and independent pursuits has enabled the duo to perform at various prestigious venues all around the world. Training in yoga and Kalaripayattu has been an important factor in the understanding of not just the physicality of the human form but also the intellect.
