Usha Timothy is a professional singer based out of the finance capital of India, Mumbai. Her name is very famous among the ardent Hindi film music lovers. She was discovered by composer duo, Kalyanji-Anandji, and was asked by Indian composer, Pt Shivram to sing in his movie, Durga Pooja (1962), a sixty-line Sanskrit shloka. Her duet with playback singer, Rafi, for the song, ‘Tu Raat Khadi Thi Chhat Pe’ was her second recorded song that became quite popular in those days. Usha was born to a respectable Christian family in Nagpur, where her father used to work for the CBI. Her elder brother, Madhusudan Timothy, is a famous violinist of All India Radio and her cousin, Vasant Timothy, used to teach music at the Khairagarh University, Madhya Pradesh. In such an environment, her inclination towards music was very natural. As a child, she used to listen and sing along to songs of Rafi Sahab and Lata Mangeshkar on the radio, even before her formal music training.
