The Ishara Puppet Theater Trust has evolved through the years with puppeteers, traditional artists, actors and dancers, creating a language of gesture 'Ishara'. Ishara collaborates with dancers, actors and puppeteers in creating a new and contemporary language of puppet theater in India and abroad. Ishara runs a successful program on HIV awareness and substance abuse in partnership with UNESCO and the EU using the alternative medium of puppetry for communication. Ishara conducts workshops in Delhi and other cities of India, bringing both traditional and modern styles of puppetry together to students, teachers and corporate houses. The group has performed in many countries and organizes the only Annual International Puppet Festival in India in collaboration with teamwork. The Ishara Puppet Theater, founded in 1986 by Dadi Pudumjee, is one of India’s leading contemporary puppet theaters, committed to creating awareness, exposure and education to the multifaceted traditions and techniques of puppetry in India and the world.
