Biography
The Bodhisattwa Trio is a jazz rock band that believes in the expression of unadulterated human feelings, in the form of powerful sounds that are unrefined and created from energy deep within the soul. The band draws influences from music ideas, feelings, and experiences of Bodhisattwa’s life. The trio has Bijit Bhattacharya on bass guitar and Premjit Dutta on the drums, delivering a mix of originals and interpretations from the writings of music legends that have been the inspiration of the band. Bodhisattwa Ghosh (Guitars) A disciple of the Indian guitar legend Amyt Datta, Bodhisattwa is blues musician who constantly looks to stretch the boundaries of music. He is also an endorsee of American giants – Fender Guitars and Ernie Ball Guitar Strings. He has also played at major venues and festivals like Congo Square Jazzfest (Kolkata), Karlovac Ethno-Jazz Fest (Karlovac, Croatia), National Theater (Oslo, Norway), Mc Enery Convention Centre (San Jose, USA), Bandung World Jazz Fest (Bandung, Indonesia), Bali Spirit Festival (Bali, Indonesia), India Habitat Centre (New Delhi), Jazz Tunel Rijeka (Croatia), Bird’s Eye Jazz Club (Basel, Switzerland), Sax Pub (Ljubljana, Slovenia), Zoroastrian Centre (London, England), Blue Frog (Mumbai), The High Spirits (Pune), Counter Culture (Bangalore), etc. Bodhisattwa has been associated with the critically-acclaimed ethno-Jazz band 'Kendraka', and is the songwriter and guitar player of his electronic/alternative band 'Zoo'. He has collaborated and performed with a lot of artists from India, like Pt. Tanmoy Bose, Pt. Bickram Ghosh, Neyvelli Radhakrishn, Mainak Nag Chowdhury, Jivraj Singh, Amyt Datta, Monojit Datta, Ehsaan Noorani, Usha Uthup, Tanya Sen, Nishad Pandey, Pradyumna Singh Manot, Jayanto Dasgupta and foreign artists like SethBlumberg (USA), Soweto Kinch (UK), Anusheh Anadil (Bangladesh), Greg Tourinski & Peter Tourinski (Poland), Matthias Muller (Germany), T.L. Mazumdar (Germany), JesseCharnow (USA), Leo Dombecki (USA), Armando Marcos Cepeda (USA), Akash Mittal (USA), Sabina Rakcheyeva (Azerbaijan), Attab Hadad (UK), Kengo Saito (France), Andraz Mazi (Slovenia), Noah Earp (Australia), Andrew, and Jonathan Kay (Canada). Bodhisattwa performs regularly at Someplace Else, Kolkata and clubs throughout Eastern India, with pop-funk band 'Crystal Grass'. He currently works with singer Tanya Sen on an experimental acoustic duo. Bijit Bhattacharya (Bass) Bijit is among the most talented bass guitarists in Kolkata. He is an active artist in studio sessions and LIVE music. He is permanently associated with bands like Safire, Catch 22, Friends of Fusion, Nukkad Salsa Project, Crayon Joint, etc. Bijit has been playing sessions with filmmaker Anjan Dutt, singer-songwriter Anupam Roy, and music director Neel Dutt. He is at present making music with Charon, Bee & The Buskers, and The Bodhisattwa Trio. Premjit Dutta (Drums) Premjit is a ‘Sangeet Visharad’ in table from Bangiyo Sangeet Parishad and a grade-8 non-classical scholar under Trinity College, London. He has been learning Latin Jazz for the last 7 years under Veteran Conguero Monojit Datta. He is a regular performer with Latin-jazz band Los Amigos, and has also played at Java Jazz Festival 2011 in Jakarta, Indonesia – sharing the stage with veterans like Santana, Roy Hargrove, and George Benson, to name a few. Besides, he is also working on his alternative/indie outfit, Camouflage.
