Biography

Taufiq Qureshi is one of the most sought after percussionist and rhythm programmer in the sphere of studio recordings. He started at a very young age with the creation of his own music band 'Surya' in 1986-87. Taufiq had a knack for self-learning and was dedicated to it and soon found his feel for the nuances and subtlety of sound and music. His work on the African drum- Djembe is pioneering, wherein he has developed a unique rhythmic language which adapts the Tabla syllables for the Djembe. Apart of Djembe he also plays Duff, Bongos & Batajon. He has been imparting training to deserving students for over a decade and some of them have started making an impact already. As for his personal achievements, the list is long. He has been featured as performing artist on 2009- Grammy award winning album Global Drum Project, Remember Shakti, Masters of Percussion and Summit. He has won Gold at Cannes Film Festival in 2010-11 for Best Music, Gold at London International Awards in Las Vegas (2013) for Original music for Parallel Music- the Nike Jingle. His list of Background scores for movies include Damini, Ashoka, Dil Chahta Hai, Sawariya, Bhool Bhulaiya, Dhoom 2, Tere Naam, Jab We Met, ABCD, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and many more in the same league. He has also composed several advertisement jingles, the most popular ones include- Manikchand Paan Masala- Unche Log Unchi Pasand, Taj Mahal Brookebond Tea, Indian Railways, Nike Shoes- Parallel Journey, Coke, HDFC- Sar Utha Ke Jiyo, Britannia Biscuits, Paragon, Pepsi-Indian Cricket team/World Cup, and more. Various multinational product launches by the likes of Pepsi, Audi, Mercedes Benz, Budweiser have had his performances. Other major performances include Femina Miss India (1993,94,95), IPL Deccan Chargers, Commonwealth Games Closing Ceremony- Melbourne (2006), IPL Opening Ceremony in Chennai and more. A pioneer with long list of achievements and experience Taufiq Qureshi is a renowned name as a percussionist and rhythm composer.
