The idea of Tathastu as a band was a brainchild of the front man of the band, Sumit. His interests in music like Indian classical and Bollywood was what led him to build the band. Hrid was one of his friends and his bandmate in a previous music group, and it was him whom Sumit approached to form the band with and in 2013, they agreed to what today to form Tathastu. With time they were in need of a drummer and it was Tirthankar, a friend of Sumit, who suggested two drummers and Abhilash was the one whom the band chose to work with. Doing music in Siliguri was going good, but the band was looking for better fortune and fame. So they decided to shift to Kolkata in 2015. Prakash, the guitarist at that time, could not come to Kolkata with the band. And it was Tirthankar, the old friend of the band, who had already shifted to Kolkata for his studies, joined them as Abhilash had called him up and asked him to join the band.  The band started performing at local gigs and college fests in Kolkata and started competing at local competitions; they were now a known name amongst the fellow musicians in Kolkata but with the breakthrough at Dil hai Hindustani, which was featured at Star Plus. It was a big step the band had taken and thus at present a nationwide recognition and a wider audience who will love their music is what they are looking for. The genres they play are alternative rock, Indian classical rock, Bollywood rock, folk rock and pop rock.
