Tapash Das is a professional pakhawaj player based out of the capital city of West Bengal, Kolkata. He was born to a musical family and is the son of Pandit Kalipada Das.
Tapas started learning pakhawaj and tabla from his father at the age of five. He also benefited from the guidance from Pandit Biatthal Das Gujrati. Later, he continued under the guidance of two maestros, Pandit Ramakant Pathak and Pandit Swapan Chowdhury.
Tapash Das, a veteran pakhawaj player, is an outstanding accompanist and soloist who has accompanied very eminent musicians on a regular basis.
He has performed with the likes of Aminuddin Dagar, Fariduddin Dagar, Pt Ritwik Sanyal, Gundecha Brothers, Ustad Asad Ali Khan, Ustad Rahim Fahimuddin Dagar, Pt Prem Kumar Mallick, Pt Uday Bhawalkar, Ustad Bahauddin Dagar, Pt Ajoy Chakraborty, Pt Falguni Mitra, and Ustad Rashid Khan.
He performed in most of the major music festivals in India, USA, Canada, Austria, Italy, Germany, Mauritius, and South Korea. Tapash participated at the Contemporary Asian Music Festival in South Korea to represent India.
He also worked as visiting lecturer in Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Culture, Mauritius. Presently, Tapash is working as the guest lecturer of Instrumental Music Department at Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata.
Awards: First prize in pakhawaj in a music competition organised by Department of Culture, Government of West Bengal, 1988-89 Received National Cultural Scholarship and selected for Fellowship for Outstanding Artist from Department of Culture, Government of India, 1993 Topped several notable music competitions in the country and received many awards from the Government of West Bengal and the Government of India
