My musical journey began around the time of the COVID lockdown. Before the lockdown, our school music teacher, Shajeb Hasan Sir, used to teach us Congo in school. Even at that time, I had a strong interest in music.When the lockdown started, I once jokingly told my father that if school had continued, I might have learned tabla that year. My father noticed my interest and asked if I truly wanted to learn tabla. I told him that I really loved music and wanted to learn.My father then spoke to a tailor in our neighborhood, Pappu Chacha. He was a good friend of Ustad Danish Hussain Badauni Sahab, a respected qawwali singer who often performed in our locality. Through him, my father contacted Ustad Danish Hussain Badauni Sahab and told him that I wanted to learn tabla.Ustad ji said that he would observe me for ten days, and only if he saw real interest and dedication in me would he start teaching me, because he did not want my father's money to be wasted otherwise. However, after just three days, he was satisfied with my dedication and performed the traditional “Gantha Bandhan” ceremony with me.This ceremony marked the beginning of our Guru–Shishya relationship. Ustad Danish Hussain Badauni Sahab, who belongs to the Rampur-Sahaswan Gharana, became my first tabla guru and guided me into the world of Indian classical rhythm.
