Sumanth is a popular Telugu film actor/producer from the Akkineni family. He has acted in over 23 films, having debuted in 1999 with Ram Gopal Varma's Prem Katha. He transferred out of engineering to enrol in film school and itis from there that his journey began. Today, he is a well-known face in the Telugu movie industry. Sumanth has delivered numerous box-office blockbusters like Yuvakudu, Godavari, Sathyam, Gowri, Madhumasam and Golconda High School. He went for his undergraduate studies to United States, enrolling in engineering course in Michigan, but after two years he transferred to Colombia College in Chicago to major in film. His debut performance in Prem Katha was well appreciated despite moderate commercial success, and won him several Nandi Awards along with critical acclaim. His next film Yuvakuddu, did positive business and was critically hailed. He later acted with his grandfather Akkineni Nageshwara Rao, and also his uncle Nagarjuna Akkineni. He delivered his first blockbuster Satyam in 2003, it became one of the highest grossing films of 2003. His next film Gowri, established him as crowd-puller and also gave him the action star image. His next and most acclaimed film came in the form of romantic comedy Godavari on 2006. It received rave reviews, massive box office success and won him several Nandi and Filmfare awards. It is widely regarded as a modern-day classic, regularly clocking high TV & digital ratings even to this day . He has continued to experiment with movies such as Gollconda High School, Naruda Dorunada and the likes. His latest release was romantic drama Malli Raava, and was dubbed by few critics as being his best film to date. He has 3 more films in pipeline taking his tally to 25 as of 2018.
