Soniya was trained in classical music by her father, Late Shri Baldev Raj Arora, who was himself a well-known musician and singer. He not only trained Soniya but also trained his son who is now a famous pianist, Praveen Arora. Apart from being a melodious Sufi singer, Soniya is also a well-trained kathak dancer.
