Biography
Sparsh Quartet is a LIVE band based out of Chennai, Tamil Nadu. With a significant presence of uncongenial climate, four aspiring musicians converged to innovate musical tradition. Their songs are an amalgamation of elegant and expressive Indian classical music and symphonies from rest of the world. They dabble in fusion music. Their aim is to orchestrate global music that drives the audience of diverse backgrounds to hit the peak of atonement and bliss. This band was founded in 2010 by Praveen, with a pure motive of presenting Carnatic music with a different dimension and, as time went on, they came up with a bunch of original compositions. He started learning the art of percussion when he was five years old from Mridangam maestro Sri Guruvayur Dorai. He is one of the most sought-after mridangist in the field of Carnatic music and has accompanied many stalwarts like Sri TM Krishna. Hailing from a rich musical lineage, Nanganallur Sri Ravishankar emerged as a mridangist during his childhood and later blossomed into both, a vocalist and a keyboardist. Across the years, Ravishankar has proved himself as a serious and ardent musician by performing with stalwarts like Hariharan, Umayalpuram Sri Sivaraman, Stephen Devesey, Thiruvarur Sri Vaidyanathan, Shankar Mahadevan, Karaikudi Sri Mani, etc. His creativity and talent have taken him across India and abroad. Being the fourth generation violinist of the Parur family and great-grandson of Parur A Sundaram Iyer, he started learning from his grandfather Prof Parur Sri MS Anantharaman. His maiden concert was at the age of seven with his grandfather at Sri Thyagaraja Vidwath Samajam. He has been performing for the last 15 years and has accompanied many leading musicians. He has performed on many radio and television programs. He has played in India and in countries like USA and Canada. He was the only Indian artist in the Awesome Africa Music Festival conducted at Durban, South Africa. He recently rendered solo violin concerts in Germany and Denmark. Sumesh Narayanan
Born in 1992, Sumesh hails from a traditional music family of Thiruvilwamala, Thrissur, which has produced many connoisseurs like Ghatam Vilwadri Iyer and Maddalam Venkichan Swamy. He has been playing the Mridangam for the past eleven years and has been under the tutelage of Mridangam Maestro Kalaimamani Sri Thiruvaarur Bakthavathsalam for a long time. Sumesh has accompanied on Mridangam and lead the percussion segment in the festival Unity in Diversity held by the Centre for Cultural Resources and Training (CCRT) on the ‘Valedictory Ceremony’ held during the CCRT’s weeklong festivals in New Delhi and Shillong.
