Biography

Sourendro-Soumyojit is a professional singing duo based out of the capital city of West Bengal, Kolkata. Vocalist, Soumyojit, and pianist, Sourendro, have been creating, composing and performing together for more than a decade now. Soumyojit pursues music under the guidance of the legendary Pt Ajoy Chakraborty, while Sourendro trained in Indian music under Ustad Vilayat Khan and Pt V Balsaral. He also learned about different forms of music from Prof Martin Keubert. They have created a new soundscape and travelled far and wide with their music. They have directed the music for the acclaimed version of the Indian National Anthem, featuring 40 legendary musicians from India, as part of their album titled Jaya Hey. Their versions of Rabindranath Tagore's compositions make up their extremely popular album, Tagore and We, which has received several prestigious nominations and music awards. They have collaborated with eminent filmmakers, Rituparno Ghosh and Aparna Sen, on stage productions. Their debut album featured iconic vocalist, Kavita Krishnamurti. They have also collaborated with noted German composer/singer, Stefan Stoppok, in their major works. The duo is blessed to have worked with some of the greats of the country that ranges from classical maestros like Pt Jasraj, Dr M Balamuralikrishna and Bollywood icons like Sonu Nigam, Shankar Mahadevan, Sunidhi Chauhan, and Shaan. The duo has created a landmark music video named Dekha Hobe ei Banglay which features 100 stalwarts from Bengal featuring in one video shot across the natural wonders and monuments of Bengal which has gained warm popularity digitally. The duo has travelled all across the Singapore, USA, Europe and West Asia, besides playing in all corners of India with their creative productions. They have performed for the Prime Minister and the President of India. They believe in their music, they keep the faith of their experts, they worship art.
