Singhraj Adhana is an Indian Air pistol Para shooter in the SH1 category. The SH1 category includes the players who suffer from impairment in their one leg or arm resulting from spinal cord injury or amputations.He won his maiden Paralympic medal in the Tokyo Paralympics 2020 on 31 August 2021 when he bagged a Bronze medal, competing with eight players in total. This medal was Indias second medal at the Asaka shooting range after Avani Lekhara. His score of 237.9 at the Tokyo Paralympics was his highest score, beating his previous best of 198.2 at the 2016 Rio Paralympics. He said My coaches suggested doing meditation to overcome the mistakes which I did in the qualification. I did meditation for 5 minutes and it helped. This result is because of a better team that is with me..He was diagnosed with Polio in his lower limbs at an age of one due to an overreaction of an injection that he was administered for fever, resulting in his disability, but it didnt hinder him to further his shooting journey, which started in 2017 at an age of 35. According to Singhraj, he was inspired to make a career in athletics/sports after visiting a swimming club in Faridabad where he used to take his sons for swimming lessons. Reportedly, before choosing air-pistol shooting, he wanted to become a professional swimmer. Interestingly, he was honoured with the Indian Order of Merit (IOM) and Military Cross (MC) by the British Indian Army for his service during the Second World War in 1939-44. He also played a key role in Indias unification of princely states into the Indian territory under the leadership of the Ironman of India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. He talked about this in a media interaction. He said, As I was not able to train, I started thinking that my dream of winning a medal is over. Thats when my coaches suggested why not try building a range at home. My mother only asked me to ensure that we are able to feed ourselves later on if something went wrong. But thanks to my family and coaches support, the green signal and help from the Paralympic Committee of India and NRAI, we succeeded in my mission and the range was soon up and running, he added.The following year i.e 2019, was the golden phase in his life when he won Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals in different categories at the 62nd National Shooting Championships in Kerala. Apart from that, the same year, he also bagged a medal at the 2019 World Shooting Para Sports Championships in Sydney.Apart from his sports activities, Singhraj actively participates in several social programs like the education of the poor and underprivileged disabled people.He runs the Singhraj Sainik School in Faridabad, near Delhi, and he is also the chairman of the school.
