Sarita James is an Indian American entrepreneur, who has also been a business executive, government official, and writer. She is the wife of Vishal Garg, the founder of the mortgage lending company Better.com, New York, US, who was in the news for laying off over 900 of his employees over a single Zoom call in December 2021.Sarita James was born in India and raised in the United States of America. While pursuing a bachelors in Computer Science from Harvard College she became a Grand prize winner among one million contestants globally for artificial intelligence-driven speech recognition software in 1994 Nobel Prize Ceremonies in Stockholm, Sweden.In 1998, Sarita James became a member of Microsoft Corporation where she worked as a program manager and developed technical specifications for Microsoft Office 2003. She also did her part in managing feature work and scheduled driving the work of 15 full-time engineers under her leadership. Sarita worked closely with the divisional management department as the point person for product overviews presented to Bill Gates and executive staff. While working there she also received patents for two technologies core to Microsofts .NET development platform.Sarita James, in 2003, got promoted as the technology consultant in Microsoft Corporation. Then she worked on translating business needs to technology solutions for executives and their staff at two major financial services clients: Bloomberg, L.P. and Deutsche Bank, A.G.After working for more than four years as a technology consultant in Microsoft Corporation, she joined the New York City Economic Development Corporation and started working as an Executive Vice President, Strategy, and Policy Division officer. While working there, her key responsibilities included strengthening and growing New York Citys economy and job base for which she executed a 50-person strategy and policy team. She also focused on strategising the congestion pricing for cars entering NYC, legislative reform in support of the financial services industry, and a revitalization strategy for New Yorks fashion district. Later she got promoted to be the Vice President of the Strategic Planning department to Senior Vice President (manager) of the department to Executive Vice President of the division.In 2008, Sarita James got employed at the U.S. Small Business Administration. She joined under the Presidents one-year, mid-career nonpartisan leadership program under President George W. Bush and President Barack Obama. She achieved this position after defeating more than 1000 applicants from all across the country. She was appointed as the Acting Branch Chief of SBAs Microloan Program, which focused on providing over $ 100 million as small business loans for empowering low-income women and people of different colour through non-profit microlenders. She also worked for helping people in financial crisis and scaled funding from $100 million to $ 150 million.Sarita James, in 2010, joined Citi, an American multinational investment bank and financial services corporation, as the Chief Operating Officer of Citi Ventures. Her service included managing investment of $ 100 million alongside Tier-1 VCs in start-ups related to strategic growth areas for the firm. The next year she got promoted as the Product Manager and Director for Citi Enterprise Payment and started working on product management within healthcare payments.In 2014, Sarita James became the chief executive officer of Embark, an online application and admissions software. The website has helped over 13 million student applications from more than 150 countries to study abroad.Sarita James joined Marathon Digital Holdings in 2021 as the Independent Board Director and Audit Committee member.Sarita James actively volunteers for Missionaries Of Charity, a non-profit organization that works for world peace & good governance.
