Sandipto’s musical journey began remarkably early—at just three years old—with the tabla. His foundation in rhythm was built under the careful guidance of the legendary Pandit Shankar Ghosh, with whom he trained extensively during his formative years. Later, he continued refining his craft under the mentorship of Pandit Abhijit Banerjee, further deepening his understanding of percussion.

While living in Pune, Sandipto experienced a shift in his musical perspective. He felt an inner pull toward melody and believed that for a percussionist to truly appreciate the depth of Indian Classical Music, one must also immerse themselves in melodic instruments or vocal traditions. This realization led him to the violin, which he began learning from Shri Abhishek Borkar.

Over time, Sandipto has developed a unique style that harmoniously weaves elements from the violin, sarod, and tabla. His approach is influenced by the Tarankar Baaz philosophy envisioned by Pandit Shekhar Borkar. With an experimental and expressive touch, Sandipto’s performances explore:

Gayaki techniques such as meend, khatka, and chhoot, echoing the nuances of vocal music.

Intricate gats reminiscent of plucked string instruments like the sitar and sarod.

Complex layakari that reflects his deep grounding in rhythm and percussion.

He has shared his music at several respected baithaks across Pune, Hyderabad, and Kolkata, earning appreciation for his innovative style and heartfelt renditions.

Beyond his artistic pursuits, Sandipto has an impressive academic background. He holds a degree in Electrical Engineering from Bengal Engineering and Science University, Shibpur, and an MBA from the Indian School of Business, Hyderabad—where he was among the top five in his class and featured on the Dean’s Merit List. Professionally, he leads a data science team at a prominent multinational company, balancing a dynamic corporate role with his enduring passion for music.
