He was just 2 years old that time.In France, he grew up with a large family of immigrants from Cameroon.At the age of 8, he joined Lyon Academy.In his childhood, he initially played as a forward, then he became a midfielder and finally found him playing in defence.After 11 years as a youth player, he made his debut in the senior side of Lyon on 8 January 2012.He has represented France in the under-17 to under-21 levels. He also won the FIFA U-20 World Cup with France. He received a red card in the semi-finals of the tournament and hence wasnt able to play in the final with Uruguay.He was voted as the Best Player of the Season for Lyon by the fans at the end of the 2015-2016 season.On 30 June 2016, Umtiti signed for Barcelona and made the first appearance for his club on 17 August against Sevilla.
