Sahajiya is a LIVE band based out of Kolkata, West Bengal. Founded in 2010, the band plays alternative and folk music. Right now, the band is in a process of developing, evolving, and creating music where traditional Bengali folk instruments like dotara, aktara, dubki, khamak, dhol, khol, ghungur, madol, and other percussions, bamboo, sarinda, and other flutes, and the folk music instruments from different countries like bongo, conga, quika (Latin American), shaker, flamenco guitar (Spanish), zumbae (African), taiko drum (Japanese), banjo (South American), rabab, uuddh, derbuka (Middle East), mandolin, marimba (North and South Indian), tabla, keyboard, drums, bass guitar, lead guitar (jazz and blues), and vocal percussion, will be performed to give a new direction to traditional folk music. According to the band, this kind of music should not be confused with fusion music. Here, every instrument from different parts of the world with various mood and vivacity will resonate in their own instinctive way and will produce a universal sound what exactly world music means.
