Biography

Sachin Shankor Mannath is a professional singer based out of the capital city of Tamil Nadu, Chennai. Sachin started singing at a tender age of four and his early musical aptitude is not surprising when one considers the musical background of his father. At that age, Sachin’s talent was recognised by prominent Indian film composer, G Devarajan, who gave him first music lessons.  Sachin continued his studies in both Carnatic and Hindustani music under the tutelage of great masters like Neyyatinkara Mohanachandran, Parassala Ponnammal and Ustad Ghulam Akbar Khan. He also holds a Bachelor’s degree (Hons) in Western Classical Vocal Performance trained under Gilles Denizot and Mark Oldfield from KM Music Conservatory (India) and Middlesex University (London) respectively. His desire to work on the music education scene in India made him carry on taking a Masters degree from Kingston University (London) in music education with a minor specialisation in film scoring.  He scored his first major success as a singer when he released his solo album, Bhasmatheertham, at the age of 13. Sachin was honoured with CCRT Talent Scholarship (1999-2007) by the Ministry of Culture (India) for his music studies. He was also chosen as the winner in classical music vocal performance at the Kerala State School Youth Festival (2004), Kerala University Youth Festival (2006) and the Inter-University South Zone Youth Festival (2007). In 2004, he received the first LPR Varma Memorial Award for Carnatic music and in 2012, he received The AR Rahman Scholarship for completing his degree from Middlesex University, London. Sachin has been featured in local and national print (including The Hindu, Metro Manorama, The New Indian Express) and being part of the KM Sufi Ensemble he was featured in the Oprah Winfrey Show. He also performed for the BBC Hindi Network and his debut film song as a composer from the movie, Unarv, was featured in BBC Asian Network as the song of the week (April 2015). He taught Indian classical music in Milton Keynes, UK for two years for students and his students performed for Tyagaraja Festival at Birmingham Temple and at the Milton Keynes Music Festival.
