Rivayaten is more than just a Sufi band — it is a heartfelt dream woven together by a group of passionate, classically trained singers and musicians who live and breathe music every single day. The idea behind Rivayaten took shape when a few like-minded artists, who used to meet and jam casually, realised that they all shared the same burning desire: to preserve and celebrate the old art of storytelling through music in its purest form.Among us is a proud finalist of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Marathi, whose journey has inspired countless young singers. Each member of Rivayaten has spent years training in Indian classical music, performing on various stages, and growing deeply connected to the spiritual and emotional depth that Sufi music carries. But beyond all our training and accolades, what binds us together the most is our shared love and reverence for the legendary Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Sahab. We are die-hard fans who have grown up listening to his timeless kalams, ghazals, and qawwalis, and his music continues to guide our own interpretations and performances.When it came to choosing a name for our band, we knew we wanted something that reflected not just music, but the essence of why we perform. The name Rivayaten, which means telling old stories and legends, felt like a perfect tribute to the tradition we wish to keep alive. For us, every performance is not just about singing songs; it is about weaving a narrative, evoking emotions, and taking the audience on a spiritual journey that touches the soul.Through Rivayaten, we aim to revive and share the beauty of classic Sufi poetry and music, blending it with thoughtful modern arrangements to make it resonate with today’s listeners. Our hope is that every note we sing and every word we utter keeps the flame of age-old musical storytelling burning bright for generations to come.
