Rekha Surya is a professional singer based out of the capital of India, New Delhi. She is a Hindustani light classical singer and was trained under Girija Devi and Begum Akhtar. She recorded for the archives of Sangeet Natak Akademi in 1994. She is a recipient of the Karamvir Puraskar for singing Sufi poetry in thumri-dadra style in 2012. She published a booklet titled ‘Sung in a Certain Style’ by Niyogi Books for commercial purpose and by Sangeet Research Academy for their in-house use. She is an ‘A’ grade artist in the Established Artist Empanelment category by All India Radio. Rekha has been invited to sing by various institutions like the Smithsonian Institute (Washington DC), Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York), MIT with International Hindi Association (Boston), Cornell University, Columbia University, World Music Institute, Yale University, Harvard University, Nehru Centre (London), Bharat Bhavan (Bhopal), National Centre for Performing Arts (Mumbai), Ram Vilas Palace (Baroda), French Ambassador’s residence (New Delhi), Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy, Canadian High Commissioner’s residence (New Delhi), and a lot more. She has performed all over India in places like Mumbai, Kolkata, Allahabad, New Delhi, Ludhiana, Mussoorie, Kanpur, Varanasi, Calicut, and many more.
