Biography
Redolent is a LIVE band based out of Imphal, Manipur. The band was formed in 2003. With a handful of songs, the band decided to enter the studio to record their debut album. Redolent was hardly a couple of months into its formation and had to make-do with a cover of Selah’s Deep Way Down, a hymn – Love Lifted Me in English, and Rongmei Naga versions and an instrumental called Last Breath, apart from the few originals within this short span of time. They hit the studios after coming in contact with Alfred Bes, a sound engineer who ran a studio, Track Plus, at Imphal. When Alfred asked for a song-sample, the boys grouped together and sang ‘A Reason’. Alfred was seemingly impressed. The whole set of songs for the first album, Shine Your Light, was recorded within one week. They made full use of what little was received from generous contributions of well-wishers and friends. Soon, the eagerly expected album was finally released by the end of 2003. ‘Remember Your Decision’ and ‘Shine Your Light’ soon became a hit amongst the fans. The album has a refreshing Gospel-rock feel in it with a touch of country rock. They made their debut appearance on stage during the State Level Orange Festival 2003 at Tamenglong. From then on, it became kind of a tradition for Redolent to sing on stage not only in every SL Orange Festival but also at every major event in Tamenglong. Redolent has shared centre-stage with well-known artists like Lou Majaw (of The Great Society), the Hip-pockets (from Kolkata), Michael Sailo and Mami Varte at the Orange Festival, VL Neihthangi (Nunui), Hlutei, Zoramchhani (Mizo Idol), Zaithanmawii and Lalruatfela Pachuau (all from Mizoram) at a Mega Concert. By 2007, Redolent had released their second studio album, Infinite Horizon, recorded at Clef Ensemble (Alfred’s new studio) in Kohima. This album shows the progression of the band from the earlier country-Gospel rock to a refined contemporary rock kind of transition. The luckiest break for the band came when they were featured in the Great Eastern Rock vol. 2 produced by The North-east Today (TNT) in 2010. They were selected from amongst 217 bands from as far as Sweden, USA, and Singapore. The song, As You Walk Away, from the band’s second album was featured in the compilation. The group topped the polls for the favorite band in TNT’s GER-2, which also features renowned bands like &
