Biography
Ranjan Gogoi was the 46th Chief Justice of India. He retired on 17 November 2019, and he is credited to hear many popular cases including the 134 years long Ayodhya Land Dispute case.His father, Keshab Chandra Gogoi was the Chief Minister of Assam for two months in 1982.Before getting enrolled into a school, Ranjan and his brother Anjan did a toss to determine who would go to the Sainik School. Anjan won the toss and went to the Sainik School while Ranjan went to Don Bosco School.His brother, in an interview, revealed that Ranjan cleared the UPSC exam but didnt see his future in it and told his father that he wanted to study law.In 1978, he was enrolled in the bar and started practising at the Gauhati High Court.On 5 August 1998, he lost his father.On 28th February 2001, he was appointed as a Permanent Judge of the Gauhati High Court.
