An Indian band experimenting with sub genres of hard rock & metal music; down to fusing grunge, rap & electronic music with classical Indian sitar hooks!
If we try to know Punkh’s point of start, we got to rewind the clock to the era of 90s, when this band started off with the name ‘Krossbreedz’. Further, the band changed more names like ‘Arth’ and ‘Truecolors’, and eventually settled on the name ‘Guru’. Punkh came up with its latest bunch of original tunes, in the album named ‘Karmah’. The album combined heavy-duty riff rock from the nu-metal era with distinctive Indian elements and soaring vocals heavily suggestive of the 80s era, when every rock singer looked hell-bent on punching holes in the stratosphere with his voice. The initial line-up of the band toured through Germany and Singapore, and was the team associated with the self-titled debut with EMI Virgin Music in 2007. Now, Punkh includes some of the best rock-metal musicians in the scene. Recently, the band featured on an international album compilation released by EMI Music, France: Voyage au coeur de l'inde (Songs from the heart of India) and the album compilation, India Rocks Vol-1 by Virgin Music, India. The lead vocalist, Deepak Nair, undertook the frontman duties for the band Bandish, from 2009 to 2011, and got featured alongside master percussionist Pete Lockette and popular singer KK, and also on the second album of the band, with Universal Music, India.
