Biography

Pt Shankar Ghosh is a professional tabla player based out of Kolkata, West Bengal. The all-time great of Indian classical music, Pt Shankar has, for more than five decades now, regaled audiences all over the world with his unique style of tabla playing. He has revolutionised both the art of solo tabla playing as well as tabla accompaniment. His many compositions are considered as an intrinsic part of contemporary tabla collection. He learnt from gurus who belonged to different Gharanas including Pandit Anath Nath Bose, Pandit Sucarshan Adhikari, and Ustad Feroz Khan. It is universally approved that Pt Shankar is the great living guru of the tabla. Till today he has taught two hundred odd students. A great number of his students are top-ranked tabla players today.
