Prashant Tamang is a professional singer based out of Siliguri. He was born in Darjeeling to Indian Gorkha parents and studied at St Robert School. After his father’s demise, he quit his studies and joined the Kolkata Police force as a constable. Here, he sang for the police orchestra. In some years, Prashant auditioned for Indian Idol III because his friends and seniors – especially Mr Zulfiqar Hasan, Special Additional Commissioner of Police – told him that his voice is good. Subsequently, he was the only contestant who was never at the bottom three or four of the gala rounds. In the end, he entered the final round and won the Indian Idol contest. He became a celebrity in West Bengal, Sikkim, and Nepal. After winning Indian Idol III, Prashant went on to release his debut album titled Dhanyavad. In 2009, Prashant also started acting in Nepali films.
