Did You know?

Bansuri – the Indian bamboo flute – has been a way of musical expression of Paras Nath since his early childhood. A Mumbai-based young man, beaming with an iridescent energy of his youth, contrasted with a grounded personality having highly-mature musical sensibilities, Paras has delved into the realms of Shashtriya Sangeet (Indian classical music) for more than 15 years now. The younger son of Pandit Amar Nath, Paras is one of the legendary flutists this country has ever produced. He is a great composer, known for his 'Vadya Vrind' orchestral endeavors. Paras got an invaluable opportunity to learn and live the finer nuances of Indian classical music under the ablest guidance of his guru, his own father. But, being a part of a legendary family, Paras could also learn and observe his own grandfather, Pandit Shiv Nath Prasad, the Indian shehnai maestro. His grandfather introduced the flute to his family for the first time and also in his gharana that otherwise is known for shehnai-playing. Paras has also been blessed to get trained and guided by his uncle and guru, Shree Dinesh Kumar. It was, however, under the tutelage of his father, Pandit Amar Nath, that he learnt the finer skills and artistic intricacies, which helped him blossom as a concert player of great merit. At the very young age, he possessed good command over the flute. His recitals were methodical with emphasis on the gayaki ang. Consistency in 'sur' and 'laya' is the hallmark of his playing. This talented young man has not only imbibed the subtle nuances of Banaras gharana but also presented the same in a very beautiful way. He is at ease with the light classical modes like thumri, chaiti, kajri, dhun and can play them with equal aplomb. Paras Nath and his older brother, Pankaj Nath, are known to music connoisseurs as The Nath Brothers. Both of them play flute in the jugalbandi style of Hindustani classical music, which is first of its kind. They try to establish the 'gayaki ang' in their recitals and  present it with great coordination.
