Motherjane is a progressive/rock indie LIVE band based out of Kochi, Kerala. It was one of the first bands in India to start fusing rock with influences from the vast Indian soundscapes. The band has two studio albums under its belt. The debut album, 'Insane Biography', released in 2002, is regarded as among the most influential albums in the Indian rock. Its second offering, 'Maktub', in 2008, gave a clearer niche to the band and everyone took note of it. Motherjane also did an OST for the movie 'Anwar', which was directed by Amal Neerad. The band is, at present, working on its upcoming album that is due for release. This album is based on the golden age of mankind. Achievements: Artist of the Decade, Rock Street Journal (2010) Asia’s Most Popular Act at AVIMA Awards (2010) Asia’s No.1 Rock Act at AVIMA Awards (2009) Maktub bagged #1 Album of the Year (Rolling Stone Magazine), (Rock Street Journal), (Unwind LIVE Awards) in 2009 Jack Daniel’s Drummer of Year awarded to John Thomas (2009) Artist of the Year, Rock Street Journal (2009) #1 Album of the Year, Insane Biography at Unwind LIVE Awards (2003) Best Top 10 Indian Albums Ever for Insane Biography, Rock Street Journal (2005) Most Rocking Band of the Millennium, Rock Street Journal After four years of lineup-changes, Motherjane released a new single, titled ‘Clay Play’. The song drives a smooth transition by fading out signature darker overtones and Carnatic splendour, and leads to a contemporary, modern progressive rock sound, with a hint of the band’s old sonic identity. John Thomas, the drummer of the band, says, “It was a conscious decision to do away with the dark image, both lyrically and musically. It began affecting our lives and we knew this kind of music wasn’t required." The band made nationwide tours during the period of its first and second albums. Released in 2008, the second album brought a change in the band’s music style. The influence of Carnatic music was mainly seen in lead guitar patterns, supported by vocals and percussions, with native instruments like ‘chenda’.
