A 300-year-old instrument with a glorious musical history, the Rabab can only be mastered by a few and Mohd Yaseen Khan is among those rare few. He has played this instrument with the greats and renowned names of Indian music over a career spanning more than 45 years now. Apart from the Rabab, he also plays violin, clarinet and keyboard. His music instantly connects with the soul. An instrumentalist he has been associated with music composition from the time when "Yaari Hai Iman Mera Yaar Meri Zindagi" from Amitabh-Jaya Bachchan starrer Zanjeer had hit the charts. He has played for the musical legends of the bygone age such as Mohd Rafi, Lata Mangeshkar, Kishore Kumar, Jagjit Singh, Shailendra and the likes. Well versed in classical music and deriving heritage from the ?Abdul Ghafoor Khan gharana in Afghanistan, he has contributed numerous classic hit songs in the industry. He continues to compose music for movies for regional industries as well. The legendary music of Rabab honed over generations is now played only on very special occasions. But when he does he his own contagious overwhelming joy infects all of the surroundings.
