Mayukh Hazarika and The Brahmaputra Balladeers is a band where a couple of performers, having a place in different classifications of music, met up to characterize what they term as music – that is a consistent amalgamation of folk, funk, rock and all that is resonant and mitigating to the ear. Their creations are lavish in beat and agreement, and convey musical subtleties of North Eastern India – dominatingly the ones of the Brahmaputra valley. One might say that the name of the band characterizes the music that it showcases. Brahmaputra Balladeers is driven by Mayukh Hazarika who is an autonomous vocalist and lyricist, and hails from the famous group of Dr Bhupen Hazarika and growing up amidst the reverberating hints of a confluence of various types of music. He has been effectively included in extending his extraordinary legacy. Aside from him, the band contains four splendid different performers. Shrikant is a guitar player second to none, and gets his adaptability from an extensive variety of music he has grown up with. Arko is a drummer and a percussionist who presents a faultless blend of Indian and Western rhythms with the same pair of sticks. Mayur keeps the band tight with his solid, tight and expressive bass lines. He additionally bends over as the sound specialist furthermore. Mridul has experience in playing different instruments exceptionally. He makes heartfelt Indian tunes with his console, adding a touch of funk. Their stage execution is bound with tunes – showcasing a combination between the natural and the contemporary; the provincial and the fine. On the whole, they are a delight to listen to.
