He is also known for his contributions to charitable hospitals, orphanages, and educational institutions for which he has been listed in The 500 Most Influential Muslims, an annual publication which ranks the most influential Muslims in the world.Maulana Badruddins father, Haji Ajmal Ali, was a rice farmer who went to Mumbai in the 1950s and went on to build a perfume empire by the brand name Ajmal Perfumes. Badruddin brothers inherited their fathers fortune, the Ajmal Group of Companies, and took it to new heights by expanding its business in various sectors including oil and textile.Badruddin became active in Assams politics after establishing his political party, Assam United Democratic Front (AUDF) in 2005. The AUDF, a party which was established just six months prior to the election, went on to win 10 seats in the 2006 assembly elections.Prior to the 2009 General Election of India, Ajmal relaunched AUDF as a national party and changed its name to All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF). All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief Badruddin Ajmal filing his nomination papers for contesting from Dhubri constituency in Lok Sabha elections.The margin of seats increased in 2011 Assam Assembly polls, as Ajmals party won 18 seats in large and Muslim-majority constituencies.He eventually gained stature after the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, wherein his party won three out of 14 Lok Sabha seats in Assam. His brother, Mohammad Sirajuddin Ajmal, was also one of the three members of parliament who won on the ticket of AIUDF.Ajmals party won 13 out of 126 seats in the 2016 Assam Assembly elections. The partys vote share was 13 percent in this election.There is no doubt that even after being the youngest of the 5 prominent political parties in Assam, Ajmals political party has made a notable place in Assams politics; however, Ajmals popularity is not only because of his political presence but also because he is a globally renowned perfume baron and one of the owners of Ajmal Perfumes, a perfume brand which reported a global turnover of Rs. 1,475 crore in 2011.According to a report in Hindustan Times, Badruddin Ajmals family owns most of Hojai town in Nagaon district of Assam. In the same town is Ajmals palatial residence, which has a large garden, about twenty luxury vehicles of different designs and colours, and a separate bungalow for his bodyguards and servants.Badruddin Ajmal business is not limited to perfumes. He runs a number of companies in association with his family. These include Ajmal Fragrances And Fashions Private Limited, Ajmal Holding and Investments Private Limited, Belleza Enterprises Limited, Happy Nest Developers Private Limited, Al-Majid Distillation and Processing Private Limited, and Ajmal Biotech Private Limited.
