Matangi N Prasan is a professional dancer based out of the capital city of Karnataka, Bangalore. The journey of Matangi started when she was four years old. She took training from Nrithya Kala Bharathi Smt. S. Divya Sena at the Kalpakkam Dance School. After her schooling, she went to Bangalore in the year 2006, where she continued her artistic endeavor under the guidance of world-famous gurus and Karnataka Kalashree awardees – Shri Kiran Subramanyam and Smt. Sandhya Kiran. Her first performance happened in the year 2007 to an audience of more than a thousand. Classical dance has ever remained her first love. Since 2012, she is also being trained in Kathak under the renowned gurus – Karnataka Kalashree Smt. Nirupama Rajendra and Sri TD Rajendra at Abhinava Dance Company, Bangalore. Her love for the art form also made her start a Bharatnatyam tuition center in the year 2013 at the HSR Layout in Bangalore. She first came to the limelight when she was 10 and under the tutelage of Smt. Divya Sena in Chennai. However, it was under Shri Kiran Subramanyam and Smt. Sandhya Kiran, at their institution for dance Rasika, that Matangi had a chance to fully bloom. That was the beginning of her illustrious career as a performer. She has also received a lot of awards from her institute for her performances, including the ‘Outstanding Contribution Award’ for dance. She has performed at prestigious venues in India, South East Asia, Middle East and US. With more than 500 dance performances to her credit, Matangi has grown with the art, assuming an unbridled passion for creativity and novelty. Matangi is a Principal Dancer with the Punyah Dance Company and with the Raadha Kalpa Dance Company. She was also adjudged the overall winner of ‘Gopinath DasNyasa’, a national level dance competition in the year 2008 and was the winner of ‘Kuvempu Habba’, a state-level dance competition, in 2006. Matangi’s zeal and contribution to dance was further recognized by awarding her for ‘Excellence in Dance’ from St Joseph’s College of Commerce, in 2010.
