Manoj Rajapaksa is a Sri Lankan-born American citizen who works with NASA. He is the son of Gotabaya Rajapaksa, the 8th President of Sri Lanka, who fled the country in July 2022 when the country was undergoing an economic crisis.After finishing his higher education, Manoj Rajapaksa started working with Celcom, a Malaysia-based telecommunication company, as an engineering consultant from 2013 to 2014.Soon after leaving Celcom, Manoj Rajapaksa began working as a principal investigator and systems engineer in the Jet Propulsion Lab of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).Apart from working with NASA, Manoj Rajapaksa has also served as a member of the advisory board of the Los Angeles Metropolitan Area municipality.On 17 July 2022, after his parents fled Sri Lanka in early July 2022, the Sri Lankan Americans protested outside Manoj Rajapaksas residence in California, United States of America (USA). According to several sources, during the protests, the agitators demanded that Gotabaya Rajapaksa should return the money that he stole from the Sri Lankans while serving as the President of Sri Lanka. They also questioned Manoj on how he purchased several costly properties across the United States in such a short period. While talking about it, a protestor said, We are in the Los Angeles Sunland neighborhood. We are in front of the house of Gotabaya Rakapaksas son, Manoj Rajapaksa. He has stolen money from the people of Sri Lanka and bought this luxury property. This is our money. This is our property. There are only a few of us here today but if your father will not leave his office, we will come here in the thousands.
