Biography

Mangesh Borgaonkar is a Mumbai-based singer who is carrying the musical tradition of his family, four generations forward. He received initial lessons in music at the age of four from his great grand father, Pt Sadashivrao Borgaonkar, popularly known as ‘Baba Borgaonkar'. At the age of six, he started his formal education in music from his uncle, Pt Baburao Borgaonkar in Kirana Gharana. During his childhood, Mangesh won numerous prizes at various events and platforms, earning accolades from many maestros in music. As a child artist, he sang in two albums – Santwani and Bhaktirang. The journey of music then sailed him through to Zee Marathi’s singing competition, ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa’, where, in each episode, he was praised by the guest judges who included eminent music directors, singers and other music veterans. Mangesh was honoured as the Chief Guest at 'Navaratra Utsav Programme 2007' and also at Mulund’s Vaze College along with well-known Marathi music directors, Ajay-Atul, for the college’s annual day function. Through his shows ‘Gaane Mangeshache’, Mangesh strives to give something back to the society by donating the funds for the extension of a music gurukul at Latur, where free boarding, education, and lodging of economically-backward children are available. ‘Gaane Mangeshache’ is quite popular in Mumbai, Ahmednagar, Pune, Latur, Kolhapur, Baroda, Pandharpur, Jalna, Talegaon, Osmanabad, and many other places in Maharashtra and neighbouring states. Mangesh has also been doing programmes with various television channels. One of the shows was 'Kasha Sathi Prema Sathi' organised by the renowned filmmaker, Mahesh Kothare. He has recently recorded the title song of a forthcoming big budget Hindi film, ‘Mera Desh Mahan’, with music director, Ram Laxman.  Mangesh’s debut album in Marathi, 'Deewana Jhalo Tuza' has some of the best names in Marathi music contributing to the album. The compositions are by Shri Ashok Patki. The lyrics are written by noted lyricists including Guru Thakur, Milind Joshi, Prasad Kulkarni and others. The album is being launched by Universal Music India. Now, he is working with the new-age famous music director, Nilesh Moharir.
