Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar is an Indian academician, administrator, and author. In January 2016, he was appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar is best known for being appointed as the Chairman of the University Grants Commission of India (UGC) on 4 February 2022.Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar was appointed as a Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at IIT Delhi soon after finishing his doctoral degree. He held the NXP (Philips) Chair Professor position at IIT Delhi, which was established by Philips Semiconductors, Netherlands (now NXP Semiconductors India Pvt Ltd).From 2001 to 2006, Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar served as the Chairman of the Electronics Group in the Department of Electrical Engineering. From September 2009 to September 2011, he worked with the VLSI Design, Tools and Technology interdisciplinary program as its Coordinator. At IIT Delhi, Jagadesh Kumar worked as a Chief Investigator of the Nano-scale Research Facility (NRF) and also held the position of Chief Investigator of the Center of Excellence for Nanodevices and Systems. This program was funded by the Government of India and its Ministry of Human Resource Development.At IIT Delhi, Jagadesh Kumars teaching skills and traits have been rated as outstanding by the Faculty Appraisal Committee. Jagadesh Kumar worked in areas including Nanoelectronic Devices, Nanoscale Device modelling and simulation, Innovative Device Design and Power semiconductor devices. Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar has co-authored several books internationally along with his undergraduate and M.Tech students.Jagadesh Kumar was an Editorial Board member of an online and open access research publication titled Scientific Reports at IIT Delhi. He was the editor of IEEE Journal titled Electron Devices Society which is published by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), USA. He served as an editor of IEEE Transactions on Electron Devices journal from 2006 to 2015, and this journal was published by IEEE, USA.Prof. K.N.Bhat was Jagadesh Kumars research supervisor at IIT Madras during his doctoral studies.Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar worked as the Editor-in-Chief of IETE Technical Review. He is a fellow of renowned educational institutions of India including the Indian National Academy of Engineering, The National Academy of Sciences, India, and The Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers, India. On 31 July 2007, Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar was conferred with the ISA-VSI TechnoMentor award by the India Electronics & Semiconductor Association, and it was presented to him by Dr R. Chidambaram along with an amount of two lakh rupees.He was appointed as the vice-chairman of the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) at IIT Delhi in 2007 and 2008.In 2011, Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar was the Organizing Chairman for the All India Joint Management Entrance Test (JMET), and in 2012, he was the Organising Chairman of the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) and was given the charge to organise tests in 860 centres over 170 cities and towns of India.Jagadesh Kumar is recognised as a distinguished lecturer in IEEE Electron Devices Society (Nanoelectronics). He is often invited by various national and international conferences and workshops to deliver lectures on the topics related to Nanoelectronics.
