Malkit Singh is a professional singer based out of the capital of Haryana and Punjab, Chandigarh. Born in the village, Hussainpur, near Jalandhar, he is the eldest child of five siblings and started singing at the tender age of four. Malkit attended a school in his locality where his singing skills were quickly recognised. He then carried his talent through to college where he participated in singing contests and won many prizes. Malkit has taken his music from the Punjabi vernacular to cross-cultural experiments with different types of music including house, rap, Bollywood film screens, dance, and many more. Music has many languages, and Malkit Singh was capable of utilising his music to bring different communities together. As an international recording and touring artist, performances at internationally acclaimed venues such as O2 Arena, The Royal Albert Hall, the Lincoln Centre, Hollywood Bowl, Andheri Sports Complex, Nehru Stadium, and Rockefeller Centre, have further fastened his grip as a music genius. Astonishingly, over 36 countries have already witnessed the LIVE performances of Malkit Singh. Charming and captivating the senses of millions all over the world with his singing, Malkit has captivated followers and fans of his music from different races, generations, and nationalities. Malkit’s music echoes in every continent, country, and city he visits. Having successfully recorded 22 albums to date, some of Malkit’s tunes have also highlighted on the big screen. For example, his hit songs ‘Gurh Nalon Ishq Mitha’ in Monsoon Wedding and ‘Jind Mahi’ featured in the film, Bend It Like Beckham. Also, his trademark anthem, 'Tutak Tutak Toothiyan,' is the best-selling Bhangra music of all time, and the album 'Up Front,' which featured the song, received a platinum disc. BBC News reported that it was the quickest selling Bhangra song in the world. Malkit has also been recognised in the Millennium Edition of the Guinness Book of World Records as the 'Best Selling Bhangra Solo Artist in the World’. More recently, in 2008, Malkit became a member of the Order of the British Empire after he received an MBE from the Queen for his duties towards Punjabi music, making him the only Asian artist to have received this honour. In 2012, Malkit became the first Asian singer to be awarded a place on the Birmingham’s Walk of Stars. The city of Birmingham gave this special recognition for his global contribution to Bhangra music. As a result, popular Punjabi folk music has gone from the relative dimness of a Punjabi village to the heady heights of a world stage. As his music spreads its wings across the globe, Malkit Singh embraces audiences of all ages and backgrounds.
