Lopa Mudra is a singer-songwriter hailing from Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Professionally trained in Carnatic music under the former All India Radio artist, Rema Rama Varma, from the age of six, she gradually picked up the guitar while writing original songs by the age of 11. She has given acoustic as well as band performances all over Kerala at various school and college festivals and has won numerous awards for her songwriting.
By successfully combining elements of Carnatic music such as Raag and Taal within her English pop songs, Lopa specialises in songs having a blend of both genres while also using Indian rhythmic elements in her guitar playing as well.
Lopa has given her voice for short budget Tamil movies and sang backup vocals for AR Rahman’s MTV Unplugged session. She has also given her voice as a backup singer for movies such as Kaatru Veliyidai, Sachin: A Billion Dreams and an upcoming movie called Fakir of Venice.
She most recently performed six of her own compositions on Music Mojo on Kappa TV, which aired a month ago. Her debut album 'Mudra' which features ten of her original compositions is currently in the making.
Currently, Lopa Mudra is a student of AR Rahman's KM Music Conservatory in Chennai where she studies Hindustani and opera vocals.
