?Latha Maheshwari is a renowned sand artist based out of Chennai. She is the only woman sand artist from the city, and remains unfazed by it. She is set onto prove that its not just music and dance that can be performed live on stage.
She first discovered sand art in 2011. She was already an expert in more than 150 art mediums and was thus no stranger to the world of sketches and strokes. Some of these included oil painting, acrylics, Thanjavur painting and lots more and she already had an art academy ?both in Chennai and Madurai.
As she got into it, people appreciated the art and she started doing regular shows at corporate events and private gathering in the city, carving a niche for herself. She got her major breakthrough when in 2014, she was chosen to perform for A R Rahman's album Raunaq?. This was the turning point for sand animation, where she had to perform in lieu with lyrics and theme of the song Kismat Se.
She has performed on Jaya TV and Vijay TV, making exclusive presentations. ?The act is tough. As most of her shows are live & theme based, its not just about drawing something from scratch, but rather creating that sync of her fingers with the music, lighting and voice over if any, with no room for error.
