A national fortune, Lakha Khan is a Sangeet Natak Akademi grant champ for his commitment to Rajasthani people music, and maybe the best type of the Sindhi sarangi. He was conceived in the town of Raneri in Jodhpur region, Rajasthan, into a group of customary artists from the Manganiyar group. He was trained at an early age by his dad, Tharu Khan and later, by his uncle, Mohammad Khan, in rendering the pieces of the Multan School of Manganiyars. His first open performances were in the late 60's and 70's under the direction of the late Komal Kothari, an exceedingly respected Indian student of History and Ethnomusicology. Today, Lakha Khan is one of the final Manganiyars to have aced this perplexing instrument and to convey forward the hundreds of years old musical custom of Rajasthani society and Sufi music.
