Biography
'Just Ittefaaq' is a music project/band, based out of the capital city of Punjab and Haryana, Chandigarh. The project is led and directed by Jasleen Aulakh with each musician skilled in his individual forte. The percussionist, who plays for Just Ittefaaq these days, is a young gentleman, named Naaz, who is also adept at the tabla, along with Nishant Agarwal who is a vocalist and also plays the lead guitar. With Polly Saghera as the lyricist, and her daughter Jasleen Aulakh being the lead singer and director of the project, 'Just ittefaaq' is best defined as a collaboration between a mother and daughter who inspire each other with a goal to make meaningful music without sermonizing. Polly and Jasleen have also recently made a successful debut in Bollywood with their song ‘Chamba’ -- Polly being the lyricist and Jasleen being the Music Director and Singer of this song composed by the duo. Predominantly inspired by folk music from different parts of India - Mainly Rajasthan, Himachal and Punjab and also some Sufi influences, the project aims to popularize folk music from the country which seems to have been given a back seat in modern times. Just Ittefaaq has also performed a few collaborative shows with traditional folk musicians from Rajasthan. Experimenting with different sounds by not sticking to conventional limits, the project includes various instruments like the Derbuka, djembe, cajon, xylophone, congos, tabla, morchang/dan moi, storm drums, Tibetan prayer bowls etc. in their act. Not being bound by limitations of any specific genre the band performs anything from Sufi and folk music to slow rock and country music in Hindi, English, Punjabi and French depending upon the requirement of the occasion. The songs from their recently launched album "Polly's Diary" that have been made available. After having drawn applause from appreciative audiences at several prestigious venues wherever they have performed , Project ‘Just Ittefaaq’ is always on the lookout for opportunities to perform at events that allow them to satiate their artistic needs. Apart from performing as a full band with percussion and sometimes the bass guitar, Jasleen Aulakh along with lead guitarist Nishant also often performs acoustic sets as a duo as need be. The category of music they usually perform is a blend of Contemporary Sufi and Folk Music that people are familiar with, along with some of their original compositions which are inspired by the same genres of music. In addition to this they also perform a few popular hindi/ English/ Punjabi / French songs depending upon the requirement of the occasion. They usually perform as a trio. They also perform all acoustic sets - just two people (me and a guitarist). Although for bigger events, it is more effective to include the percussionist and play with the complete set up.
