Jayshree Ullal is an Indian-American entrepreneur and is known to be a self-made businesswoman. She is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Arista Networks.She was born and brought up in London for the initial 5 years of her age and then went to New Delhi, India. Later, she shifted to the US when her father secured a new job there. Her father was one of the key founders of the Indian Institutes of Technology, a group of higher -education centres established after Indias independence from England in 1947 to train scientists and engineers. In 1983, the networking company was at its peak. Thereafter, she developed an interest in marketing. In 1988, she moved on to Ungermann-Bass, a company that made 40 million dollars a year by developing and selling networking products. Ungermann-Bass was at a competition with Cisco in its early stages of development. Later, Ullal decided to join a startup company, Crescendo Communications, that was purchased by Cisco Systems. At Cisco, Ullal looked after the companys business in key enterprise markets including wiring closet switching, datacenter backbone for increasing layer 2-3 convergence, and Customer Premise Equipment for remote WAN access. She led Cisco to the top position in LAN switching to drive efforts to ensure it as a leading company. She hiked the companys switching business to 5 billion dollars in annual sales. While at Cisco, she also oversaw more than 20 mergers and acquisitions and turned out to become senior vice president of Data Center & Switching and then later, left in 2008.In October 2008, co-founders Andy Bechtolsheim & David Cheriton announced Ullal CEO & President of Arista Networks, a cloud networking company located in Santa Clara, California. Initially, it was a four-year-old company that she helped transform into a world leader in networking technology. At the time of her joining, Arista lacked in revenues and had less than 50 employees in the company.In June 2014, she led the company to a notable and successful IPO, extending the Arista business from 2.7 billion dollars to the 20 billion dollars market capitalisation on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol ANET. Arista is a cloud networking company responsible for the deployment of 10/25/40/50/100 Gigabit Ethernet networking in the data centre.She has earned a rank in the Forbes list of Americas 60 richest self-made women. In an interview, talking about her success as a businesswoman, she said, You need to be tenacious and never give up, despite setbacks. Being a female in a male-dominated technology sector has not been a barrier in rapid and innovative industries like high tech.
