Jameel Khan is an Indian actor who is known for playing Asgar Khan in the film series Gangs of Wasseypur (2012), Vanka in the film Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram Leela (2013), and Santosh Mishra in the web series Gullak (2019).He came to Mumbai to become an actor after completing his graduation. In the beginning, he stayed in a 1 Bedroom Kitchen flat in Mumbai.While he was in school, he took part in many theatre competitions and won various prizes for it, including the Geoffrey Kendal trophy.In 1992, he was a part of the crowd in the play Julius Caesar by Naseeruddin Shah‘s theatre group Motley. He has worked with him in other plays like Manto…Ismat Haazir Hain, Katha Collage, Safed Jhoot Kaali Salwar, The Caine Mutiny Court Marshal, Faust, and The Chairs. In an interview, he talked about his friendship with Shah and said, Nasiruddin Shah is my mentor and my friend for lifetime. One can learn so many things from him. My association with him is for 20 years now. Whenever I tell him that he is my Guru he always smiles. In an interview, he said that when he was in college, he would play football tournaments while fasting. In the interview, he further said, I was in Sherwood College, Nainital for 10 years. There used to be a very elaborate spread for Iftaar and even for Sehri. My non-Muslim friends envied that spread but were always in awe of how we could go without even water for around 15 hours. I wonder how I managed to play football tournaments and sports while fasting.”.After completing his schooling, he wanted to pursue engineering, but he did not score enough marks to enrol in the non-medical science stream. Later, he started studying history at Aligarh Muslim University. Although his father wanted him to appear in the civil service exam, he refused to do so. He also learned Urdu while studying in Aligarh. He was a part of the Sabrang theatre group in Aligarh. He was also one of the founding members of the Indian People’s Theatre Association in Aligarh. Working with Sabrang theatre group and IPTA Aligarh, Jameel was intrigued to pursue a career in acting after college.He has appeared in various Hindi films including Chalte Chalte (2003), Cheeni Kum (2007), Gangs of Wasseypur (2012), Tiger Zinda Hai (2017), and Pagglait (2021).
