Biography
Jagroop Gill is an Indian advocate, social worker, agriculturist, and politician who became a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the Bathinda Urban Assembly Constituency on a ticket from the Aam Aadmi Party in 2022.He grew up in a middle-class family in Bathinda.Jagroop joined the Indian National Congress in the 1970s.Gill has been a councillor of the Bathinda Municipal Corporation for six consecutive terms, i.e., 1979, 1989, 1992, 1997, 2008, and 2015.In 2020, he was appointed as the Chairman of the Bathinda District Planning Board. He won from ward no. 48 by 414 votes.In 2021, Jagroop was the number one contender for the post of Mayor in Bathinda. However, the post went to Raman Goyal, which apparently became the reason for Jagroop quitting the Indian National Congress in August 2021. He was formally welcomed into AAP by Harpal Singh Cheema, Jarnail Singh, Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, Baljinder Kaur, and Rupinder Kaur Ruby at the party office in Chandigarh on 2 August 2021. He said, Gill has been the president of the District Bar Association as well as the president of the municipal council.
