A classic Indian rock fusion band formed in an era of war and terrorism, when tensions were high in India, 4 people emerged out with an patriotic agenda and followed a multi instrumental approach towards the music industry. It all began back in the early 1980s  when a young  Susmit Sen (Guitars) met Nikhara during a concert .Impressed by Sens guitar skills and his evolved approach to create a new sound, Chakravati decided to teach the young rock star different forms of rhythms. In the next 3 years, with Sen grooving on the guitar and Chakravarty with his noticeable tabla and drum skills experimented with their music without writing original lyrics. It was 1990 when Sen (guitarist), Shaleen Sharma (drummer), Chakravaty (tabla ,vocals), Indrajit Dutta and Anirban Roy as (bassist) formed their 1st demo tape which consisted of 45 minutes of recording and 7 songs. Although the recording was done in 1 day only, HMV was so impressed with their tape that they decided to sign Indian Ocean up for an album . After a few alterations in 91 Rahul Ram replaced Anirban Roy as the bass guitarist and the band started recording their 1st official studio album titled (Indian Ocean) a name suggested by Sens father that became the bands maiden name. They implemented a lot of hard work and perfection into their album. It took a whole year to complete their piece of art. The album sold 40,000 copies within a year since its release and was successful. After an year in 1994 Shaleen Sharma decided to leave the band and was replaced by a talented Amit Kilam who was still in his youth giving exams in college. Subsequently this line up made the band more recognizable and memorial for almost an decade. They released one live album (Desert Rain) and two studios album (Kandisa) and (Jhini). They were also responsible for the magnificent soundtrack for Anurag Kashyaps “Black Friday “which became a cult classic in the industry and performed a few soundtracks for Peepli Live. In the year 2009 a tragedy struck the band when Asheem Chakravaty passed away. Since then the band has found two new members Himanshu Joshi (vocals) to fill the shoes of Chakravaty and Tuheen Chakravaty handles the tabla and percussion. The band has not yet announced an official permanent replacement till now. In 2013 Sushmit Sen left the band and is now pursuing a solo project.
